 True seals have a smooth head with no external ear flaps. This makes seals more streamlined
 True seals do not have an under layer of fur.
 True seals' hind appendages are partially fused. This restricts their movement on land.
 Seal lions have external ear flaps on their streamlined head.
 Sea lions have an underfur pelt.
 Sea lions have a higher range of motion in their flippers. Due to the articulation in their flippers, they are quite mobile on land. This allows them to spend extended periods of time out of the water.
