Answer to Question 1

Some organisms live in intertidal zones. These organisms are subject to various conditions of submergence and emergence. They develop ways to deal with desiccation. The organisms that utilize the intertidal zone separate out into a layer which is suitable for their need for water.
Some organisms migrate vertically with the tides. These organisms often find shelter in sediments during high tides. This could be protection from wave action or predation.
There are organisms that rely on tides to bring food and nutrients to them. This is true of many filter feeders. These animals would not be able to get enough nutrients to survive without the tides.
Animals like the grunion use the tides to reach the shore for breeding. This behavior occurs the day after the highest spring tides. This breeding mechanism provides protection to the developing eggs from voracious marine predators.
