The upwelling of deep water returns nonconservative nutrients to surface waters. Information can be
found in the section Lack of Nutrients and Light can limit Primary Productivity.



Answer to Question 2

ANS: B
Satellites have made sensing the chlorophyll content of the ocean possible. The amount of chlorophyll
is directly related to photosynthesis. Information can be found in the section Measuring Primary
Productivity.
