Answer to Question 1

ANS: A
Communities can slowly modify the physical factors in their environment. Corals and sediments can
change the flow of currents which, in turn, changes other aspects of the environment. Information can
be found in the section Marine Communities Change as Time Passes.

Answer to Question 2

ANS: D
These factors are only a few of the hardships organisms must deal with on sandy beaches. This is in
addition to the normal problematic factors associated with the intertidal zone. Many of the organisms
must also find ways to distinguish food particles from grains of sand. There is also the issue of
predators being able to excavate them from the sand. Information can be found in the section Examples
of Marine Communities
