Newton's knew his equilibrium theory of tides was incomplete because the maximum theoretical range
  was significantly lower than actual tidal ranges. What will be an ideal response?

Answer to Question 1

ANS: T
Lunar tidal range had a maximum theoretical range of 55 centimeter. The solar tidal range had an even
smaller yield of a 24 centimeter range. These are both considerably smaller than the 2 meter tidal range

The daily rise and fall of the tides consumes a large amount of energy and this is ultimately dissipated
as heat. Most of this energy comes from the rotation of the Earth itself, and tidal friction is gradually
slowing the Earths rotation by a few hundredths of a second per century. Information can be found in
