Each type of delta is dominated by a distinguishing characteristic. River-dominant deltas are shaped
like a bird's foot from the flow of the river. Tide dominated deltas create islands parallel to the river
flow. Wave-dominated deltas tend to be small and have smooth shorelines with sand dunes.

Erosional coasts also must contend with the alternate freezing and thawing or water within rocks,
