Answer to Question 2

Provide a neutral territory for the children, either a new house (if possible) or a room for the stepchild moving into a new home. Don't try to fulfill a role; that is, don't try to be something you aren't with a new stepchild. Set limits and enforce the limits. Allow the stepchild to express their feelings for their natural parent who is not present. Don't expect instant love and expect some ambivalence from the stepchild. Be patient: all relationships take time. Remember that the marital relationship is the primary relationship.
