Given the following mole fractions and vapor pressures for miscible liquids E and F, calculate
  the composition (in mole percent) of the vapor from a distilling ideal binary solution at 150
  and 760 mm Hg. (The vapor pressures PE and PF are the values at 150C.)
  XE = 0.40 XF = 0.60
  PE = 1710 mm Hg PF = 127 mm Hg

Question 2

A mixture of ideal miscible liquids C and D is distilled at 760 mm Hg pressure. At the start of
  the distillation, the mole percent of C in the mixture is 90.0, while that of D is 10.0. The vapor is
  condensed and found to contain 15.0 mole percent of C and 85.0 mole percent of D. Calculate
  the following.
  (a) The partial vapor pressures (P) of C and D in this mixture
  (b) The vapor pressures (P) of pure C and D

Answer to Question 1

X'E = (0.40 x 1710)/760 = 0.90, or 90 mol
X'F = 10 mol

Answer to Question 2

(a) PC = 760 X'C = 760 (0.150) = 114 mm Hg
PD = 646 mm Hg
(b) P C = PC/XC = 114/0.900 = 127 mm Hg
P D = 6460 mm Hg

Though methadone is often used to treat dependency on other opioids, the drug itself can be abused. Crushing or snorting methadone can achieve the opiate "rush" desired by addicts. Improper use such as these can lead to a dangerous dependency on methadone. This drug now accounts for nearly one-third of opioid-related deaths.
