Answer to Question 1

c

Answer to Question 2

Acetone containing only 1H nuclei would show one singlet in the 1H NMR. Upon deuteration, all of the hydrogen atoms will no longer exist in chemically equivalent environments and splitting of the signal may occur. If the deuteration goes to completion, CD3COCD3, the 1H NMR signal will be lost because 2H (D) is a nonmagnetic nucleus possessing an even number of nucleons.

Answer to Question 3

d

When Gabriel Fahrenheit invented the first mercury thermometer, he called "zero degrees" the lowest temperature he was able to attain with a mixture of ice and salt. For the upper point of his scale, he used 96°, which he measured as normal human body temperature (we know it to be 98.6° today because of more accurate thermometers).
