The two differences between Claisen and Aldol condensations are as follows:
1 . In the case of Claisen condensations, hydroxides cannot be used as a base as they could react with esters, while for Aldol condensations, hydroxides can be used.
2 . In Aldol condensations, no group is lost, but in the case of Claisen condensations, an alkoxide group is lost.
