A variety of methods is used by the batterer to intimidate or harm the victim. Factors include the amount of time spent together, conflicting interests, tensions in family interactions, age and generational differences, finances, and lack of privacy. Characteristics include: emotional abuse, economic abuse, sexual abuse, physical abuse, legal abuse. Women are most likely to be victimized.
