Answer to Question 1

d

Answer to Question 2

Should describe the Golden Mean (and virtue) as the midpoint between vicious extremes of deficiency and excess. In a given situation or with respect to a thought, feeling, or action, it is possible to have too much (excess) or too little (deficiency) of something. The middle way is the mark of virtue. Numerous examples are provided on pages 200-202 of the text, including Aristotle's own examples, as well as Hinman's illustration of virtuous attitudes toward self and others.
