Answer: Women cannot legally divorce in the Philippines and are only allowed to apply for a legal separation or annulment. Thus, it is more difficult to leave an abusive spouse. Vatican City is the only other country that does not allow for divorce, thus making the Philippines the only other country where women cannot divorce their abuser.

Answer: There are many forms of cruelty, which can include persistent denial of food, perverse sexual conduct, locking outside of the house, denying access to children, physical violence, mental torture, abusing children in the mother's presence, forced confinement to the home, denying of paternity, and threatening divorce unless a dowry is provided.
