Answer to Question 1

FALSE

Answer to Question 2

The computer pulls itself up by its bootstraps from an off state to an on state. That process involves several steps and starts out on a very basic level. The first thing that occurs when a computer is turned on is a rudimentary test of the hardware devices needed to complete the rest of the boot process. If all items pass their diagnostic test, the system is able to move on to the next step in the boot process, which is accessing the BIOS. BIOS information is usually comprised of low level instructions that are stored on a Read Only Memory chip, also known as a ROM. The instructions here are needed to activate the mass storage devices (hard drives) of the system so that the computer can access data stored on the hard drive. Once this occurs the computer can access the MBR on that drive to get other information it needs to continue booting. Using the MBR and File Allocation Table, the computer is able to locate the first part of the Operating System (OS) installed on the machine and then begins to execute the instructions in the operating system code.
