  a. A device used for rapid, short term storage of data, while the computer is powered up
  b. A piece of removable media that stores data optically using lasers

All ports and cable connections should be photographed, documented, and labeled, evidence tape should be placed over the ports, power switches, and disk drives. This applies to peripheral devices as well. The screen should also be photographed if the computer is on.
