The bulk of criminal procedure consists of constitutional procedure or what the U.S. Constitution says-usually through the interpretation of the U.S. Supreme Court- with regard to the treatment of criminal suspects. Of particular relevance to criminal procedure are the terms justice and liberty. The Constitution helps ensure justice and liberty through both setting forth the various roles of government and protecting the rights of people within the nation's borders.
