Several norms of corrections work have been identified that are similar to those found within the police subculture: Always go to the aid of an officer in distress; do not rat; never make another officer look bad in front of inmates; always support an officer in a dispute with an inmate; always support officer sanctions against inmates; and do not wear a white hat.
