Answer to Question 1

An application is filed and the agency receives a self-evaluation questionnaire to determine its current status. If the self-evaluation indicates that the agency is ready to attempt accreditation, an on-site team appointed by CALEA conducts an assessment and writes a report on its findings. After becoming accredited, the agency must apply for reaccreditation after 5 years.
CALEA accreditation enhances the role and authority of patrol officers, improving analysis and information management.
