Drama developed very differently in Spain than it did in England during the Renaissance. How would you characterize the differences? What accounts for this difference in terms of the culture of each country?

Drama developed in Spain well after theatre had become a way of life in England, and religious dramas-autos sacramentales-continued to be popular in Spain 200 years after they had fallen out of favor in the rest of Europe. This is due in part to the reconquest and Inquisition, which kept Spain almost entirely Catholic, without struggles between conflicting Christian sects.
