Answer to Question 1

Historically, many cultures view the actor as a holy, while others consider actors morally corrupt. Some cultures see the actor's ability to impersonate the creatures of the natural world as a special power, and the actor is viewed as a kind of shaman traveling between the world of the spirits and our world to bring back knowledge. Examples include the Hindu Dashahara festival, in which community actors are believed to actually be the gods they portray, and spectators worship them by touching their feet, praising them, and participating in postperformance rituals. In the West, actors were often considered unholy purveyors of entertainment of low moral repute. For example, in Elizabethan England, women were banned from the stage and theatre was seen as morally offensive. In Restoration England, actresses were often labeled prostitutes.
