Answer to Question 1

False

Answer to Question 2

The goal of a commercial producer is to make money, so he/she must know what the public wants to see. His/her major responsibility is to raise money and find backers to cover production costs. Not-for-profit companies have both managing and artistic directors who share the responsibilities of producing with a board of directors. In a not-for-profit theatre, the board oversees fundraising and planning, the artistic director usually decides what plays to produce and whom to hire for the artistic staff, and the managing director is responsible for budgets, publicity, and all other aspects of administration and theatre management. In small and alternative theatres, directors with specific projects might play the role of producer, procuring funds, renting theatres, sometimes even building the sets, buying props, and costuming out of their own closets. Producing responsibilities are sometimes shared with the actors and designers, who volunteer time to work on other aspects of the production.
