Answer to Question 1

B

Answer to Question 2

Solo performance evolved from several traditions including stand-up comedy and performance art. Individual actors create solo pieces to air their unique talents, experiences, and concerns. The growth in the number of performers who have taken to this form reflects a confluence of forces. As producing theatre becomes increasingly expensive, having a single artist sitting alone on stage with few or no set or costume elements is an economical and portable way to create theatre that can be taken to different venues with little effort. On a deeper level, as the world moves toward multicultural awareness, individual voices representing groups that had been largely silent can now be heard and welcomed in the public arena. Performers from marginalized groups often take to the stage to represent the political and social agendas of their communities.
