Answer to Question 1

Spending time together is an important measure of marital success. The idea that someone is physically present does not mean that time is spent together. On the other hand, there must be enough time for quality to surface. It may be necessary to realize that quality and quantity are interrelated and therefore cannot be compared.

Answer to Question 2

Sole custody is where the children are assigned to one parent, who has sole responsibility for physically raising the children. Joint custody is when the children divide their time between the parents, who share the various decisions about their children. Split custody is when the children are divided between the parents. The court may also award custody to someone other than a parent or parents. In most cases, grandparents or other near relatives gain custody of the children.
