Answer to Question 1

Three properties that are acceptable are high specific heat, high heat of vaporization, and density of the solid less than the density of the liquid. All of these properties are a result of hydrogen bonding. A complete answer should refer to the idea that hydrogen bonding causes an increased amount of interaction between water molecules, resulting in larger amounts of energy being necessary to cause changes such as increased temperature or vaporization. The unexpected low density of solid water (ice) is a result of the way water molecules fit together because of hydrogen bonds.

Your skin wrinkles if you stay in the bathtub a long time because the outermost layer of skin (which consists of dead keratin) swells when it absorbs water. It is tightly attached to the skin below it, so it compensates for the increased area by wrinkling. This happens to the hands and feet because they have the thickest layer of dead keratin cells.
