Many workers involved in the production and assembly of clothing in the United States are members of the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees (UNITE).
When was UNITE founded? Which two unions merged to form UNITE? (Hint: From the home page, click the What is UNITE? link.)
UNITE actively campaigns against the operation of illegal sweatshops. (A sweatshop is a shop or factory in which workers are employed for long hours at low wages and under unhealthy conditions.) Name one recent action taken by UNITE in its campaign against sweatshops. (Hint: Consult the chronology on the What is UNITE? page.)

Question 2

All salespeople must deal with objections from potential customers. Successful salespeople must recognize all objections and try to address them in a way that satisfies the customer. For an interesting perspective on how to handle sales objections, read the article on the Guerilla Marketing web site; then answer the following questions.
According to the author of the article, when are sales objections ''almost guaranteed''? Can you think of additional reasons when objections are ''almost guaranteed''?
What ''classic closing question'' does the author of the article recommend a salesperson ask a prospect in order to meet certain objections in a hypothetical manner?
What sales objection do you think fashion salespeople hear most often? How do you think an effective salesperson would counter such an objection?

Answer to Question 1

UNITE was founded in 1995. The union was formed by the merger of the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union (ILGWU) and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union (ACTWU).
One possible answer is the June 2002 collaboration of UNITE with New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey in the passage of anti-sweatshop legislation mandating that New Jersey state uniforms can only be made in U.S. shops that pay non-poverty wages, agree to union neutrality, and meet established safety and health standards.

Answer to Question 2

Sales objections are almost guaranteed when the salesperson fails to establish need, rapport, credibility, and/or trust.
The author recommends that salespeople ask, ''If I could do X, Y, or Z, would you give me your order?''
One possible answer is that fashion salespeople most often hear the objection that a garment is too expensive. The salesperson could counter such an objection by pointing out the garments quality and value.
