It is common for early childhood educators to be challenged by families and communities about the value of play for childrens learning. Using information in Chapter 10, how would you meet this challenge?

  Content knowledge: children learn through play, play is a childs work, play is intrinsically motivated, it is the childs choice, it is active, it is child-directed, it is fun, it is essential for all areas of child development, stages of play can be observed, play is a teaching/learning tool in early childhood education, teachers role is setting up the environment to enhance play

children learn how to cooperate, build trust, communicate and complete a task; can be extended to families through newsletters, videos or other forms of communication
