Answer to Question 1

Start with simple, specific tasks. Assign the person to work with one child alone at an activity. Gradually, as you know more about the persons abilities, you can allow greater responsibility.

Answer to Question 2

There should be places where an adult and child can sit together and a high table that is comfortable for an adult. A place can also be provided for children to leave messages for volunteers and where adults can keep their belongings.
