Discuss the studies done by Piaget and Vygotsky that lead to the conclusion that the most successful programs are based on the premise that active children in an active environment are the best conditions for bringing about developmental changes.

Answer to Question 1

Exposing children to new ideas, offering challenges, working with new people, addressing childrens interests and needs, balancing academic support with fun engaging activities and structure.

Answer to Question 2

Piaget stressed the predictable stages of qualitative changes in childrens thinking that allow them to construct knowledge through interaction with their environment. Vygotsky believed that thinking changes as a result of instruction or support (scaffolding) from the environment and as language skills increase.
