Answer to Question 1

Let them pursue their own interests, then talk about them with another child. Involve them in puppetry. Practice pretend phone conversations. Plan activities that allow them to be successful. Make specific suggestions about what to say to other children.

Answer to Question 2

Follow with a discussion with an adult. Have children describe what started the behavior, then explore what they were feeling. Help them find ways to prevent similar situations in the future.
