Schirrmacher provided a discussion and expansion of Kelloggs stages of artistic development in children and the corresponding ages. Identify his four stages and the specific characteristics of each stage of development.

Answers will vary.
Manipulating the Media: Scribbling and mark making (1-2 years of age).
Making shapes, outlines, designs, and symbols that have personal meaning (2-4 years of age).
Pictorial Art that is becoming recognizable to others (4-6 years of age).
Realistic Art (5-8 years of age). They want their art work to look like the real thing. They become more critical of their art work.

In the text, Georgia OKeeffe was given as an example. Students can however identify another artist they believe would be appropriate to study. Included should be the artists work, books/resources, and techniques that could be investigated.
