The following phases are still recommended today for interviews with families:
 preliminary preparation (preparation for the meeting),
 introduction (review of the purpose of the meeting),
 inventory (discussion of the information and determination of the parents perceptions),
 summarizing (review of the options), and
 closure (summary of what took place in the meeting).
