ANSWER: Charlesworth et al. found that low-SES and African-American children benefited from attending developmentally appropriate kindergartens, achieving at somewhat higher levels later on. First-grade students who had attended developmentally inappropriate kindergartens were rated by their first-grade teachers as being more hostile, aggressive, anxious, fearful, hyperactive, and distractible than children who attended more developmentally appropriate kindergartens.
