Answer to Question 1

ANSWER: Selfconcept is the cognitive recognition of ones attributes, and selfesteem is the emotional side of how one feels about those attributes.

Answer to Question 2

ANSWER: Different cultures have disciplinary practices that are considered abusive under law. The teacher should become familiar with the culture before any problems arise and have conversations if possible with the family about disciplinary practices at school. That may open the dialogue to discuss alternatives and rationale for nonphysical punishment. The role of the teacher is to protect the child, however, so a hotline report must be made if there is reason to suspect.
