Answer to Question 1

Teachers must be knowledgeable about common communicable and acute childhood illnesses  what causes them, how they are transmitted, and how they can be controlled. They must understand and implement infection control measures, such as frequent hand washing, disinfection of surfaces and early identification and removal of children who may have a communicable illness. In addition, they should be aware of mandated reporting policies and community health agencies that work with communicable illness prevention. They should also be involved in establishing and following program policies regarding sanitation and exclusion of sick children and adults and conduct on-going health education with children.
