Answer to Question 1

A mother should be discouraged from breastfeeding if (1) she has a communicable or chronic disease such as AIDS, (2) she is taking medication that is harmful to the baby, or (3) she is a drug or alcohol abuser.

Answer to Question 2

The decision to breastfeed is dependent on a number of factors,such as personal knowledge, experience, and support of friends and family. Age, income, cultural practices, and work demands also influence the decision.
