Above all, a calm demeanor for the teacher may head off poor reactions to the emergency, so the prepared teacher would know that being calm is necessary to keep things under control. Proper emergency response can save lives, help lessen the impact of an emergency, and provide comfort to the injured child.

Indicators would include vomiting, shock, confused behavior, unevenly dilated pupils, change in breathing rate, change in pulse rate, cold and clammy skin, and loss of consciousness.
