The mesosystem is the next level of influence and includes interactions among the various microsystems. For example, family and teacher interactions in the child care setting represent connections between home and school that impact the childs development. The exosystem includes influences with which the child is not directly involved that affect development and care, such as parent education, parent workplace, and the quality and availability of health and social services. The macrosystem consists of the values, laws, resources, and customs of the general culture in which a child is at the appropriate level for learning to occur.
