A good story, well-made flannel set and board, visual literacy skill, a sense of drama, the ability to tell a story at the proper pace, voice projection, the ability to capture and hold attention, the ability to make story characters real, facial expression and gestures tailored to the story, correct voice volume to match story parts, skill at creating suspense, voice variety, an understanding of the children's developmental level, a selection of comfortable audience seating.
