Read regularly from early in their lives.
Enjoy rather than heavily teach academics.
Be warm and accepting.
Watch for child restlessness and lack of interest.
Provide a non-corrective, no-fail environment, which makes learning easier
Accept the child's attempts to read.
Pause and let the child supply a guess as to what comes next.
Invite child participation.
Reread books, especially favorites.
Borrow books you cannot afford to buy. Watch for yard sales.
Ask librarians for book title ideas.
Let children see you reading.
