Sensory processing disorders are conditions characterized by the inability of the brain to correctly process information brought in by the senses. They are associated with autism, cerebral palsy, ADHD, and other neurological conditions, or a sensory processing disorder (SPD) can be present
by itself. Children with SPD usually have aversion to or an excessive need for sensory stimuli, difficulty coordinating their bodies to move a certain way, difficulty sensing how much pressure is needed to complete a task, and difficulty with postural muscles and responses.
