Answer to Question 1

When we accept responsibility for the care and education of a child, we implicitly promise to follow our profession's ethics and look beyond that child's runny nose, messy hair, ability difference, or country of origin to see a precious creation full of hope and wonder. We must approach all children with open hearts and give unconditional acceptance to all families and children regardless of creed or color. We must get beyond our problems and feelings about a parent and unconditionally accept that person as a worthwhile human being. To be fully effective in working with and guiding a child, we must find a way to respect the child's parents.
