Hunt described what he called the match, which must be created between a child's level of readiness and the exact level of difficulty or discrepancy in a specific learning situation before optimal learning can take place. If interactions in the environment are too difficult, children become frustrated and discouraged. If they are too easy, children become bored. Children actively seek out materials and activities that match their level.
