Answer to Question 1

In the past, communication skills were less important because families were developed around gender roles. Today, the family's major function has become relational rather than role fulfilling, making successful communication very important.

Answer to Question 2

Although the creation of more and better part-time jobs would help alleviate the overload experienced by full-time working mothers, there are drawbacks. Part-time work reduces the economic contribution to the family in less hours and pay standards. It is also assumed that part-time employees are less committed. Therefore, part-time work seldom offers fringe benefits.
