ANSWER: 1. Apply only those rules that are really needed for the child to play safely.
2. Let the child take the lead. This may involve some patient waiting for the child to choose something to do.
3. To encourage the child to play with others, define the space where the children can play, and keep it small at first.
4. If a child wants to play with another child or a group of children but does not know how to join in, encourage her to gradually become involved, and then slowly lessen your own involvement.
5. Encourage verbalization during play by asking questions and encouraging communication with other children.
6. Offer dramatic play materials that are familiar and part of a childs daily life
experiences.
7. Set up the dramatic play area in a variety of different ways. If children want to
play through medical experiences, set it up as a doctors or dentists office.
