being able to have a positive label for every child

helping children build an emotional vocabulary

making the classroom a comfortable place for children

discussing a variety of feelings openly

being able to speak of the teachers own feelings without overwhelming children

finding good books that touch on sensitive issues

helping children learn social referencing skills

showing understanding of the range and intensity of childrens feelings

helping children become aware of the feelings of others
