When immobilizing a patient to a long backboard, you should:
◦ secure the head first, then the torso, the arms, and finally the legs.
◦ check circulation, sensation, and movement in the extremities before and after.
◦ place a pad under the shoulders.
◦ tape or strap tightly across the chin to keep the lower jaw from moving.
