Dale Wilson is a middle school teacher in suburban Charlotte, North Carolina. He has been teaching for 10 years, and thinks he would like to pursue certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. His school district has agreed to pay his registration fee if he wants to pursue this special certification. Mr. Wilson is a good teacher who is well liked by his students and teaching colleagues. He knows his subject well and has demonstrated the ability to communicate the major ideas in his field to middle-level students. One of the characteristics that has aided Mr. Wilson in his teaching career is his ability to analyze his teaching and to translate those analyses into alternative, more effective classroom practices. He also tends to reflect on what happens in his classroom and uses these reflections to improve his teaching.


Should Mr. Wilson succeed in winning National Board certification, describe how his status within the profession might change both locally and nationally.
