Bryan, a blind student, attends high school with his peers. Bryan functions very well, scoring above his peers on intelligence tests and participating in many extracurricular activities. In the classroom, Bryan uses Braille and often tape records his assignments. He takes tests with his peers but they are written in Braille. A vision consultant works with Bryan's teachers to help adapt or modify materials, the instruction, or the environment to ensure that Bryan is successful in the least restrictive environment. Bryan has been active in the development of his individual education program.
Discuss the concept of least restrictive environment. Is Bryan's current educational placement in the least restrictive environment? Why or why not?
