Answer: Endocannabinoids bind to CB1 receptors located on other neurons; CB1 binding opens potassium channels in the presynaptic terminal, thereby reducing the release of transmitter. Activation of the CB1 receptor is thought to mediate the euphoric and memory effects of marijuana in humans.
