Answer to Question 1

Although antipsychotics such as Thorazine can reduce the effects of LSD and other monoamine-related hallucinogens, they can increase the mental confusion or intensify the experience induced by some hallucinogenic drugs, e.g., PCP or scopolamine. Thus if one does not know exactly what type of drug is causing the psychotic symptoms, it would not be prudent to use an antipsychotic to control the symptoms.

Answer to Question 2

LSD is capable of inducing much more profound and intense perceptual distortions and hallucinatory experiences than THC. The effects of LSD generally persist longer than those of THC, but THC's lipid solubility is much higher so that it stays in the body longer. LSD increases wakefulness, whereas THC has more sedative-like properties. Tolerance to LSD's effects occurs relatively rapidly, whereas tolerance to THC's effects develop rather slowly. THC tends to disrupt memory processes more than LSD. THC has been shown to be self-administered by nonhumans, whereas LSD has not. LSD works primarily by altering serotonergic systems in the brain, whereas THC works via cannabinoid receptors.
